I went to Border’s last night after Manoj postponed his appointment with me from 1900 to 2100. Actually I had arrived just on time and was waiting at Starfuck’s at Liat Towers. I had just sat down with my green tea when he sent word that he’ll be late. So anyways I was at Borders. And I walked over to the travel section and saw this discovery guide on Canada. Flipped through it and when images of Calgary, Banff and the Rockies came up, I surprised myself and teared uncontrollably. I miss Calgary.

Been trying to wake up early the last 2 days. Woke up at 7 plus, breakfast and then carry on with my day. Not too bad actually. I got a lot more done in a sense. But I still haven’t found business for this month. Sigh. A’s been postponing like mad, but I guess she can’t help it, she’s a journalist. Gotta call her again later.

Went to the gym on Monday to follow through on that workout I did on friday. Started with cardio again, and took lots of breaks in between my giant sets. Looks like I can do heavier weights now, i’m quite happy. Then I went again yesterday, I guess it was coz I was really ansty from not smoking. It’s been 65 hours. :P I did about 30 mins on the bike but i cranked it up to level 13 instead of my usual 10 and did the hill routine again. Again, lotsa breaks but I did a slower/lower workout routine. Dropped my weights by about 60% and did 5 reps of 10 each for each exercise. Not bad, I say. Dosed up on my Endurox and then my L-Glutamine later that night. I went to the office at about 2300 and stayed till 0500. I was trying to get the stupid network up again. Sigh.

Does anyone have MS Windows Server 2000? Please?? :P

Fat Bottomed Girls - Queen
Oh you gonna take me home tonight
Oh down beside that red firelight
Oh you gonna let it all hang out
Fat bottomed girls
You make the rockin’ world go round

Hey I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Heap big woman you made a bad boy out of me

I’ve been singing with my band
Across the wire across the land
I seen ev’ry blue eyed floozy on the way
But their beauty and their style
Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them dirty ladies every time

Oh won’t you take me home tonight?
Oh down beside your red firelight
Oh and you give it all you got
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round

Hey listen here
Now your mortgages and homes
I got stiffness in the bones
Ain’t no beauty queens in this locality (I tell you)
Oh but I still get my pleasure
Still got my greatest treasure
Heap big woman you gonna make a big man out of me
Now get this

Oh you gonna take me home tonight (please)
Oh down beside your red firelight
Oh you gonna let it all hang out
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin’ world go round

Get on your bikes and ride

Oooh yeah them fat bottomed girls
Fat bottomed girls
Yeah yeah yeah
Fat bottomed girls
Yes yes

Yesterday I was so bored I popped into Jurong point to see if I could take a look at SDIO WiFi cards for my Treo. Found the CyberActiv shop that was willing to let me test. It didn’t work. So I came home, got mum and picked up G for dinner. At Jurong Point nonetheless. This time I was armed with the hack. Apparently Treo didn’t put in any WiFi drivers because the cellphone carriers were bitching that if WiFi were supported then they couldn’t charge exorbitant prices for GPRS services. Fucked up isn’t it? Yes it is. But someone found a hack. And he goes by the name of Shadowmite. So anyways I installed it the software and went back to the shop, despite the fact that the stupid made in china box said, for windows CE devices only. Stubborn me. It didn’t work. :P
So after I dropped the folks home, I went to meet Emm. Calvin came along after a while but as usualy didn’t talk much. Oh well. Maybe it’s me. I wanted to recruit him but couldn’t find the opportunity. Dean called Emm and popped down as well. It’s been yonks since I’ve seen Dean! So anyways, we somehow got on the topic of Land Rover Defenders and then we all three started babbling about it. (Cal left). Our plans when we get one each and what we’re gonna do with it. So fun! :)
I want my Landy Dammit!

SuperSets lah!

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

People have been asking me so much about my workout routine, I’ve decided to make it sort of a permanent feature. Here is ONE of my workouts. This was the one that I started out with initially got me from average to hunk. Haha.

SuperSets
What are Super sets? Google “supersets” and you’ll find a myriad of articles and web pages professing what are and what are not supersets. Some are plain silly, some make sense, and some are a hodge podge of ideas. I took my ideas of Supersets from a copy of Men’s Health (the American one), that I read way way way back in 1990. This was the one with Mark Findlay on the cover and had him demonstrating the supersets. It was an awesome article and I’m pretty sure I have it around somewhere (lying in the dust at home.) I read the article over and over and over and I’m pretty sure I have it down pat. The article called for 2 or 3 exercises for the same muscle group, mostly done in isolation. But I digress.

Supersets give you very fast growth and great cut (that ripped look), if you stay loyal to the plan. But that’s a given… you have to be rather disciplined yet flexible. A superset to me is a set of 2 or more exercises for each muscle group with really really light weights. I started with dumbells of 2.5kg only and barbells of 5kg. LEAVE YOUR EGO OUTSIDE THE GYM!! A single set consists of 15-12-10-8 reps, sometimes you might want to do 18-15-12-10 but that’s rather time consuming. But you can see the pattern. Eventually you’d want to do at least 2 sets and perhaps even double your weights. But I daresay by the time you double your sets, you’d have hit your plateau, and you’d have to change your routine. I change my routine every 2-3 months.

Sets
These are the combinations I generally use, but bear in mind that I have a bad back so I tend to avoid those that tax my back excessively. The stuff in brackets might be a worthy text book exercise, and please use your brains, don’t be overdoing your sets if you can’t take it. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! Some things are meant to be done on alternate days.

  • calf raises, hamstring curls
  • leg extensions, seated leg presses (squats)
  • bench press, incline press, chest flys or cable flys
  • bench press, decline press, chest flys or cable flys
  • lat pull downs, lat rows, bent over rows
  • lateral raises, front raises, dumbell shoulder presses
  • barbell curls, over hand barbell curls, dumbell curls

There.

I decided to flush my Treo along with my desktop backups and archives. I’ve been using the same files and .prc files since I had my Handspring Visor Deluxe (gawd. That’s so ancient).

Hmm… I had a Handspring Visor Deluxe(2 sets actually…2000-2002),

Handspring Edge (2002-2003),

then I pilfered Grace’s Palm Tungsten T (2003-2004),

then my PalmOne Treo 600 (Oct 2004-apr2004)

and now my PalmOne Treo 650! :p

Anyways, now that I’ve reminicsed enough… the bloody zero out procedure is insane!

———
Zero Out Reset

A zero out reset will regress a device that has non-volatile memory to its factory-fresh state. When done correctly, it completely rewrites your device’s internal memory with zeros and ones, ensuring that any data is expunged. It should be used only if you want all information completely obliterated (example: you’re selling your handheld, or you’re sending it in for repair, and want to protect your privacy).

Warning: A zero out reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don’t perform a zero out reset unless you want to eradicate everyting.

HotSync note: If you wish to continue using your handheld after a zero out reset, please be aware that some third-party applications change the way your handheld backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be permanently deleted.

Method Two (Tungsten T5; Treo 650)

Read through these instructions before attempting the reset. We made this method of zero out reset extremely awkward to perform, so that it would not happen by accident. You may need the help of a dextrous friend if you find it too difficult to do by yourself.
Connect your device to its HotSync cable or cradle. The HotSync cable does not need to be connected to your PC, and it does not need to be connected to power.
Press and hold the Power button and UP on the 5-way navigator.
While continuing to hold Power and UP, press and hold the HotSync button on the HotSync cable or cradle. As you press HotSync, make sure your other finger doesn’t slide to LEFT or RIGHT on the 5-way navigator; it needs to be exactly on UP during the entire process. Although you are pressing the HotSync button, a HotSync operation should not begin.
While continuing to hold Power, UP and HotSync, press and release the RESET button on the back panel of your device (where’s the reset hole?). This is very difficult to do with only one person; you may wish to hold the stylus in your mouth and use your hands to press Power, UP and HotSync.
Release Power, UP and HotSync.
If you did this reset correctly, the screen of your device will go blank, and you will not be able to turn it on. The charging LED will not light up, even if it’s connected to power. It will appear to be “dead.” (any other activity — such as the Palm OS logo or a rainbow-colored Boot Log screen appearing — means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again)
Your device will appear “dead” for several minutes (up to 10 minutes). During this time, your device’s internal memory is being reformatted. If your device doesn’t appear “dead” for several minutes with the screen completely blank, the zero out reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
After several minutes, your device will “wake up” and the Palm and Palm Powered logos will appear as if you had performed a hard reset. Eventually, you’ll be taken to a series of screens to calibrate the touchscreen and set date & time.

If you want your handheld to remain in factory state, stop here. If you want to restore data to your device, follow the steps for recovering after a hard reset (a zero out reset is a special type of hard reset).

speaking of insane… here’s a link to an INSANELY huge pic. Click at your own risk. I use Opera and I had to scale it down to 30%.

Then I came across this article on Reverse Bluetooth DUN. Funk-eh! But it doesn’t bloody farking work dammit. I can’t get my BlueTooth to work on my laptop and I SUSpect it’s this shit that IBM put in their Thinkpads. Sigh. Time to FLUSH my thinkpad. :P
Fuck. I’m really tired now. I’ve been dicking with CB bluetooth for the last 2 hours. So. Hmm. Quick overview.

Stupid bitch in a bright red swift, sporting (rather proudly I must add) 2 brand spanking new P plates, managed to swerve across 2 lanes and nearly rammed my car. Bitch. She’s deaf as well as having the wonderful ability to drive with horse blinders. Bitch. Sigh. Whatta day. It started out alright. Went for brekkie with G. Went to see the Doc for my lymph node swells. Took a full blood test thingy. 2 vials of blood. I think at least 50mls! Didn’t hurt lah. Then talked to Doc about quitting smoking, AND asked about my scraping knee cap. Too long a story. Then since I was at the Ubi area I stopped in at Kah Motors to see if I could talk to someone about the Hybrid. They stopped selling them. Go figure. Bah.

So off to the office I went. That was ok until the evening. I had only packed 1 policy to go!! I have 2 more. So with 30 mins to go before my next appointment, my stupid program crashes and I find that the secretary only scanned in 24 of 25 pages. SO I have to created that last page again. Only I have to log out and log into the admin account and change the dates, start the quotation program, enter the data and print the page. AND the stupid machine I’m at takes 3 fucking mins to load bloody Adobe Acrobat. Dammit. Sigh. So off to my appointment. Then the bitch incident occurs. Then my 9 pm appointment postpones. argh.

lymphatic overload

Monday, August 1st, 2005

My lymph nodes are swelling again. This time, I have 4 swellings at the base of my skull and the back of my neck. Particularly the one on the right. It’s giving me a migraine. Ow. :( Coupled with a bad tummy for the last 2 or 3 days, I’m miserable.

Edgy, frustrated and miserable. The edginess could be that I’m seriously cutting down *bleep*. I’ve a new strategy, I go cold turkey for X hours, then when I break, the next time I go cold turkey it’ll be X times 2 hours. :P Long process but it seems to be working. I just had my first *bleep* in 12 hours. :P Sigh. I’m tired and hungry all the time now, I think it’s coz of the lymphatic infection.

Listening to this song, on a paltry, dreary afternoon such as this brings me somehow back to my PL days with the rest of the gang. All we did was spend time together as a PLC, watching movies, eating chicken rice at Far East, and planning, planning, planning. We had so many ideas, so many laughs, so many dramas between us. Over the years we grew to respect and care for each other a lot. It’s been over a decade and a half now, and the original crew has fragmented down to just Allan, Arden, Peter, ZiCong and Peter. ZiCong wasn’t a Scout but he was part of the family at the time. I remember once we went out after school, on one of those half days or something. We were traipsing along at Yaohan at Plaza Singapura after lunch or something. What we were doing there, I don’t remember but I think we were headed to the old underpass. We were laughing our asses off over some joke or other, and behaving like the typical noisy schoolboys that we were. We must’ve garnered some frowning faces from the adults around us at the time, they must’ve particularly frowned on ZiCong coz he was wearing his Prefect badge, Pete was wearing his Class Rep badge I think…. actually I think Arden wasn’t there but Jack was and everyone had a class rep, prefect or ava badge of sorts. I had the asst class rep badge. haha! Anyways, I think we were acting like clowns and I was going on and on (to Allan), “Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Wo Yao!” Like a spoilt brat, and Allan was playing the dutiful, heartlander mother who was going berserk, Oriental Emporium style, and smacking her child (me). I think ZiCong was playing dad or something and we were just cracking up. (You’ve seen scenes like that I’m sure at your local Oriental Emporiums, haha!) So we were walking and behaving badly when ZiCong knocked into the mannequin, he turned around and went, “Oh. Sorry!” The mannequin was still rocking. :) We cracked up again. I’ll never forget that.

We met up again the other day, for dinner. Allan and his wife Debbie, Pete, ZiCong and a JiaHuan (their NTU friend). We had memories galore. We’re always reminicsing in a way or another, though not to as much a degree as I do. :P It was good.
